Question about ErfgoedBot/Monuments database
I tried to contact you earlier on your en wikipedia talk page but got no response (though I answered my own question anyway). I don't usually get on commons, so if you reply to this, could you please do so at my en talk page? I have a question about ErfgoedBot and the monuments database. I have been working on a script that assists in the addition of commonscat links and images to lists on en wikipedia (and could eventually be translated into any language), but the way everything is set up on commons is a bit strange. I recently edited the NRHP template to remove spaces that I thought were unnecessary, but you reverted me shortly thereafter, saying I broke the bot. I modified my code to cope with the space, and I assume it is there to make the identifier (in this case the refnum) into a string, not a number?
Either way, that is not the point of my question.. The main reason I wanted to point that out is because I can't find anywhere that the bot uses category sortkeys. From what I can gather (I have a very limited knowledge of python, but it looks pretty easy to understand), the bot extracts information from the lists on the various wikipedias themselves, not the commons categories. How is changing a sortkey here breaking anything? I ask because I now have another problem with the sortkeys of subcategories of Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wallonia with known IDs. Instead of just having a space, which is easy to add in, you can see from Template:Monument Wallonie that the sortkey for categories also includes the pagename, harder to generate... in fact impossible if you're trying to generate the sortkey from the identifier/refnum alone. Wallonia is the only register I have found with the sortkey like this; all the others have just the id along with a leading space plus some number of zeroes to pad it. My question is how is the bot able to cope with the pagename being in the sortkey for Wallonia to extract the monument id? If I change the sortkey for these categories, what exactly will happen to the bot?
Also, on a semi-related note, has the bot stopped running? I and another editor have been using my script to go through en:Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Missing commons category links, and it hasn't been updated in a while. Did my change to the NRHP template break anything, or have you just not had time to run it?--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 23:32, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Straßenbahn Gmunden has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

As it has been requested for deletion, do you have any further need for {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-example}}? --Túrelio (talk) 07:47, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello Multichill, can you please update the doc corresponding to what your have changed in there Template:Tango_project (2011). And also where is the discussion to your change or the apparent reason? These means also the creation of this Category: Images from the Tango project, it is also very implausible and incomprehensible because all subcategories are images!? -- Perhelion 12:00, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
- Done. It's well established practice on Commons to never set topic categories using templates. Multichill (talk) 19:48, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
