BotMultichillT dupes Commons

Hello.
Images are the same, as far as I can see – only JPEG metadata (Exif) differ. You should, at very least, merge these two File:s, as simply deleting the older upload would be disrespectful to the original uploader. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 16:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- Colors are different so these two shouldn't be merged. Multichill (talk) 16:29, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- I got the colors thing now: the older is in Adobe RGB whereas the bot’s uses default JPEG color (sRGB? I’m no expert here). The pixels are evaluated to the same (or very similar) RrGgBb values, but on the monitor the Ramblersen’s upload looks much more colorful that the bot’s. Are you sure that the newer file specifies correct colors? Wasn’t it [accidentally] decolored by stripping of the color profile information? Incorrect interpretation of Adobe RGB data as they were sRGB with its narrower gamut theoretically produces this effect. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - testing qualifiers for depicts
As you might have seen, testing is underway for adding qualifiers to depicts statements. If you have not left feedback already, the Structured Data on Commons development team is very interested in hearing about your experience using qualifiers on the file page and in the UploadWizard. To get started you can visit Test-Commons and chose a random file to test out, or upload your own file to try out the UploadWizard. Questions, comments, and concerns can be left on the Structured data talk page and the team will address them as best as they can. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
I saw you undid a couple of revisions I made to this page, where I replaced
- Wikimedia projects with Wikimedia Foundation projects
- Microsoft Word and Excel with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
The templates have little effect in the English version of this page. However, they "show through" into translated versions of the page where the English text has not been translated, which is common, and link to articles in the corresponding Wikipedias. You will see the effect at Commons:Project scope/it#Must be an allowable free file format, as long as your reversion has not been flagged for translation. I think this is an improvement.
You may not have noticed that the new Wikimedia Foundation, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel templates are meant to be used on Commons/Help pages, and by default use the page language rather than the user language. Should they have a different name format to make that more obvious? E.g. WPL-Wikimedia Foundation or something? Aymatth2 (talk) 20:47, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- Actually they do, I noticed "Wikimedia projects" changing to "Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. projects". Using templates in full text for translation generally complicates things. I would stick to plain links or only use a bit of logic for the linking part. Multichill (talk) 15:31, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- I believe it is important to recognise that text on English pages will show in other language versions, and should link to target pages in the version's language where possible. I have tweaked Wikimedia Foundation so it accepts a display name. E.g.
Wikimedia Foundation
givesWikimedia Foundation
on an English-language pageWikimedia
givesWikimedia

givesمؤسسة ويكيميديا
. The|lang=ar
parm is not needed if the page language is Arabic.
givesWikimedia
- A link to en:Wikimedia project, a redirect to an anchor in an English Wikipedia page seems an impossible challenge to the translator. The German and French translations of Commons:Project scope both give up and link to Wikimedia:Home. Would you be o.k. with replacing
en:Wikimedia project
withWikimedia projects
? Aymatth2 (talk) 00:21, 15 June 2019 (UTC)- That looks like a good solution. Multichill (talk) 09:41, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I fully agree that using templates in full text to translate bits of text rarely works well, but this should work o.k. The translator can choose whether to let the article name show through or to replace it by some other text. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:38, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Depicts itself?
Hi! This edit looks quite strange for me. I think this picture depicts József Eötvös, not Portrait of József Eötvös—it is Portrait of József Eötvös. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:00, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Tacsipacsi: Hi to you! In this case we have two works
- The painting, which is described at Portrait of József Eötvös (Q64353067)
- The photo, which is described at File:Barabas-eotvos.jpg and which is a digital surrogate of the painting
- The painting depicts József Eötvös (Q469996) (that's on the item). The photo depicts and is a digital representation of the painting. So it's a two step approach. Of course you want to search for the guy and find this file, for this we have phab:T223815 open. Does that make it clearer? Multichill (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- It’s still weird for me, but I understand your point. What I still don’t understand is why is it worth storing twice (once in depicts (P180) and once in digital representation of (P6243)). By the way, does anything use these statements currently? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 11:15, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Tacsipacsi: see also Commons talk:Structured data#digital representation of. As far as I know, these statements are not used anywhere (besides being in the search). It's a bit of a chicken and an egg problem, you need a lot of statements to do something nice with it, you only add statements when something nice is being done with it. By seeding it a bit I hope not to get stuck in this cycle. Multichill (talk) 11:30, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Bot not marking its edits as bot edits
Hello. BotMultichill is making lots of edits at present, but they are not marked as bot edits. This is making it difficult to notice any other edits mixed in to the list. Can you set the bot flag for its edits? --Mirokado (talk) 11:20, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Mirokado: thanks for your message and sorry about that, looks like the bot field fell out. Edits are now marked as bot edits. Multichill (talk) 11:27, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response! --Mirokado (talk) 11:49, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Mass upload
Hey, Some people mentioned that Antoin Sevruguin now satisfies PD-old-80 and there are more than 1000 historically important pictures that can be uploaded to Commons. Do you think you can take a look or let someone else know about this? Thank you! Amir (talk) 09:09, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
