Can you figure out what happened to...
Category:Flora of Libya, Category:Flora of Tunisia, etc and put the species back that were removed from there and also I added the plant categories to these categories so that all could be accessed from the Ecozones tree. It is a tree which contains Flora {including Plants, Forests, Trees), Geography, Animals (Fauna is there to help collect information about the beasts large and small the same way flora collects the plant kingdom) and occasionally Climate categories. The Nature of categories contains camping grounds and sunsets which is beyond the scope of Ecozones (geography covers anything that camp and park category would contain) and I was actually trying to make the Nature of category within the political divisions that I found who had categories but did not have this upper level category of.
I should be looking into where the Pacific Islands go and fixing those maps, not undoing the results of petty little gallery vs catogory wars.... -- carol (talk) 23:08, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Category:Flora of France, Category:Flora of Portugal do I really need to list them? A good bot can look at his own history. -- carol (talk) 23:44, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am not certain which bot did what -- I am also emotional right now because several weeks of work have been deleted here. Can your bot look through a master deletion log (which may or maynot be somewhere available) and restore all categories which were named "Flora of somewhere"? Restore meaning put them back and have the categories I put on them returned as well? -- carol (talk) 23:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- The categories you mentioned were never created here at commons. Please create them. Multichill (talk) 23:57, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, they were. I created them already. They lived in what was an almost completed Category:Ecozones tree. To make me be the bot is to not run a real bot, don't you think? To make me recreate them is to display that you are not making software. Do you really want this exchange to go in that direction? -- carol (talk) 00:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Category:Santolina rosmarinifolia every red lettered category there with the exception of maybe Malta had been created and categorized themselves. A bot undid this and a bot should undo the undiding. If you suspect that versioning software has been used and not a bot, then we need to talk to your boss. -- carol (talk) 00:32, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Dear Carol, i checked the log for the categories you're talking about ([1], [2], [3], [4]). According to the log those categories were never created/deleted. Are you sure you created them? They were either not created or oversighted (that seems somewhat farefetched). I checked Category:Category_redirects and recovered Category:Flora of Greenland, Multichill (talk) 16:53, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for restoring the Category for Greenland! When I saw that at least two of Category:Flora of Portugal, Category:Flora of Spain or Category:Flora of France were missing, my brain started to only be able to think "what the hell" and of the work that went into making them. I strongly suspect that the links you provided were not made yet or were made with a different category name and I am sorry for the time you spent looking for something that might not have been created yet.

(tab rest)YAY! In the preview I see they live again! Thank you and everyone who looks like you too! -- carol (talk) 23:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am confused about "Plants of.." vs "Flora of.." categories. I noticed that there was both a Category:Plants of Greenland and Category:Flora of Greenland. That is redundant, is it not? Then I looked around and found it seemed like the prevailant way to do it was to have a "Plants of.." category. So I moved the image pages/articles that pointed to "Flora of..." to "Plants of..." and added a cat redirect as mentioned above. I can see you removed it again here. Why? Am I misunderstanding something? (I see a species is added to the "flora of..." cat. Is that not an error as that can lead you to images which are not taken in the particular country)? -- Slaunger (talk) 14:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- I reverted your edit because carol complained. See #Flora vs Plants. Multichill (talk) 15:37, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I am not convinced there ios community consensus to prefer "Flora of" instead of "Plants of". I have asked at COM:VP to make sure this is the community policy. -- Slaunger (talk) 16:08, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- The only thing that is known is that the deletions were happening without any discussion and the discussion was heated and finally subsided on June 28 at the Village Pump and the categories were restored (like, the clean up after the party has been done) and if you have a problem with the Image map navigation that can be found at Category:Afrotropic do speak up about that. -- carol (talk) 23:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Duplicate image tagging
Hi, Multichill! First off, I love your tools and use them often. I was wondering if you would mind looking at this bot request at en Wikipedia, and offering your thoughts on whether a bot could use your tools to tag duplicate images. Thank you! Kelly (talk) 16:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Overcategorizing
Sorry about that. And thanks for the heads-up. Nightscream (talk) 18:08, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, i can have my bot remove the supercats..... The edits will probably look like this. Multichill (talk) 18:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Question
Could you explain to which picture you refer to in this statement? It's a bit odd if you upload pictures for nearly four years and then some bot tells you that there is something wrong but refuses to say what... --Gnu1742 (talk) 06:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Please see the included link. You'll notice some orphans and some pictures in Media needing categories. Multichill (talk) 07:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Then please label the according link correctly and add a hint to your bottext, that checks using the orphan-Tab do not tell you wether there are orphans or not. Sorry, but this is a total usability flaw: The prominent link every User sees when logged on does not give the info which it is supposed to by its label. Instead you have to click the link next to it, never mind its label. Annoyed, --Gnu1742 (talk) 10:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Another Question
Hi there. I have a partial list of galleries which could use a bot to put into the same name of category. Is this something that you would be interested in or that your bot can already do? It isn't a huge amount of images or galleries, nor is it a complete list. -- carol (talk) 09:37, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you are capable of doing this, let me know at my talk page. -- carol (talk) 02:05, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late respond. Was busy the last two weeks. I was thinking about using galleries as a source for adding categories automagicly, but i havent really had the time to write something. When i have something i'll sure drop by to have some sample pictures to work on. Multichill (talk) 16:12, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi,
since I have arranged a bit the Category Castles in England (by single castles / county) I would like to do the same with "Historic houses" but I am very unhappy with this catname so I suggest to chose a different name. "Estate" is too general, "Mansion" too specific so I suggest "Mansions and Estates in ..." . What do you think about? --Ceterum censeo capitalismum esse delendam (talk) 22:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Kurpfalzbilder.de, that's a hard one. You need some category between Category:Houses and Category:Castles. Category:Mansions and Estates sounds alright to me. Maybe you should leave a message at the village pump to get more opinions. Multichill (talk) 16:16, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Category into Lucy Komba Image
Hello, Multichill. That image I've been given by her self while it was in flash disk. I don't know how to make category for such images, so please could you kindly give me category? Image is:
Lucy Komba 1.jpg and Lucy Komba 2.jpg
I hope you'll help me to add category!!--Muddyb Blast Producer (talk) 14:43, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Muddyb Blast Producer, i've created Category:Actors from Tanzania. The naming convention here is different than wikipedia. In wikipedia the category would probably be called Category:Tanzanian actors. Thanks for your pictures. Multichill (talk) 16:22, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Helpt Concerning Account Change
Hello, I was wondering if you could perhaps help me with changing my account. I'm trying to consolidate my accounts in the various projects, and would like to change to a different account name (atavory). Many thanks. Bye, Thedsadude (talk) 13:19, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Thedsadude/atavory, please take a look at Commons:Changing username. Good luck! Multichill (talk) 16:24, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Some mistakes, move category
Some mistakes at move content of category: This isn't shopping cart. --ŠJů (talk) 15:53, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Could you please unblock my images
Hello Multichill! Could you please unblock my images ("Kazimierz_Kalinowski_1933.jpg" and „Kazimierz_Kalinowski_1945.jpg"), since, according to your suggestion, I amended them with the category: biography (Biografie) as this is where they belong. Many thanks. Bye!Akalinowski 22:25, 21 juli 2008
- Hi Akalinowski, i dont know what you meant with unblocking, but i added the pictures to Category:People of Poland. Multichill (talk) 17:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Tree of Life images categorization
I think will be good idea to run bot on all ToL images included to pages and add category with same name as page. Otherwise replacing {{Uncategorized}} will require too much manual labor. See Category:Aesculus californica (I done this manually). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi EugeneZelenko, i am working on automaticly finding categories for images see #Another Question and my plan. Me and Siebrand are adding commonscat templates to a lot of wiki's to make the automatic categorization work better (see the progress). I already have an initial version of a bot, but this bot has to be fine tuned before i'll do any big runs. See the result of my first tests here. Multichill (talk) 17:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Multichill; I'm pleased to see that your bot is adding species categories to images of species that appear on gallery pages.[5] May I assume that feedback is helpful to you? In a more recent edit, your bot failed to add the species category to an image of Amanita muscaria.[6] Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- NO and Why? If there is already a species gallery linked to a higher level category there is NO need for a species category as well. If one had been created in the first place then the species gallery should be linked there but having two identicla species (category and gallery) is too much duplication. Searchers can read and they only need one name to refer to. Someone did what you are doing a couple of years ago and it screwed everything up WayneRay (talk) 18:36, 24 July 2008 (UTC)WayneRay
- Reading the rest of this thread was what looks to be part of a nice day for me! Multichill, when you run out of galleries with images that need to be categorized, let me know. I am taking a break from plants, having completed the categories to genera there; but I will love to see how those templates work to make some interesting new categories here for this information! Whee! -- carol (talk) 18:53, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- It was a quote. Please return the text: Commons_talk:Categories_vs_Galleries#Varieties_and_subspecies If you cannot find where the quote was taken from, a diff can be provided. I took that comment (made where the discussion was/is going on as a promise to stay out of the gallery vs. category stuff, btw. -- carol (talk) 20:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Carol, I will not restore your words.[7] With or without your explanation,[8] they are not helpful, in my judgement, and do not comply with the advice of COM:TALK, to wit, "make others feel welcome (even longtime participants; even those you dislike)". Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is a nice thing, it is indeed something that I attempt to do. Is it to be a rule that is only for me though? It appears over the last month that it is a rule that is only for me and I am going to politely suggest that such an application of one rule to one person is not the greatest way to achieve a helpful situation. Also, I do not dislike anyone here and to assume that there is a dislike by me of anyone is kind of rude -- the real kind of rude that I am not interested in other people making these claims about.
- What was removed was a simple quote that was delivered with a promise that the interaction here the next day was a violation of. There was no "dislike" involved. I dislike the situation immensely. -- carol (talk) 17:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see that your bot has added the species category to the image of Amanita muscaria I mentioned above.[9] Good work.Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Removing categories
Dear WayneRay, please dont remove categories from images. It's considered disruptive behaviour. I reverted your edits. Multichill (talk) 20:40, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Others and I are in discussions on this on going topic. I believe the categories I deleted were because I had created new species categories or species galleries and there would be a duplication of images. I realize Slaunger, Carol, Finovan and others want to see all photos left in a category and also in an accompanying gallery but it is really clutter sometimes and we are starting to agree that good images should go in galleries and not so good ones left in the species categories, That is what I am trying to do (I think)
- If you are refering to here then these photos are already in agallery and it is clutter to leave them in the higher level category, extra photos should be in the species category my friend not in here. WayneRay (talk) 21:38, 23 July 2008 (UTC)WayneRay

Make Your bot editions more carefully
According to Commons:Categories#Categories and/or galleries? not every file MUST be directly in category. Some of them are groupped in galleries, that later are attached to proper gallery. I do not remove gallery of someone add it, but there is no need of tagging every file by bot. So stop adding {{Uncategorized}} to every file. I'm tierd of reverting Your bots unnessecary editions. Greetings Radomil talk 20:36, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- There is a more current Commons link that says otherwise, do I need to find it for you? -- carol (talk) 21:07, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Please dont remove categories or the system to keep track of uncategorized files. Multichill (talk) 21:29, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- So make system more intelligent. It should ommit files attached to galleries. Only orfant files should be tagged. Radomil talk 21:34, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

- Yep, but now we still have two systems. Categories for everything and galleries for the good stuff.
