Uploading images from Europeana
Hi Multichill,
I've seen you have been involved with the Europeana pilot. Looks like a very cool project. I have a questions: Is there any tool/bot available at this point which can be used to upload images/information from Europeana on demand. For example, if I want to upload this object, what is the best/right way? Thanks a lot! --Codrin.B (talk) 15:09, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

File:P1060173 - Flickr - Al Jazeera English.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Tropenmuseum
Hi, I understand you're busy and I'm sorry to bother you with this again, but some miscategorisations by your bot have not been repaired yet. Many Tropenmuseum pictures were assigned obviously wrong categories. For example, a photo in which “twee missionarissen zijn op bezoek in een Marrondorp” was put in the categories Huts in Indonesia, Christian mission in Indonesia and Families of Indonesia (diff). Since you operated the bot, I thought perhaps you might know best how to quickly identify which files are affected and fix the problem, or at least you know who else might be able to do so. I've contacted you about this in April 2010, but I guess you were busy and later forgot about it. Dustsucker (talk) 11:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Template:PD-Italy
Hi there, you restored {{PD-Italy}} in 2009, which had been deleted in 2006 following Commons:Deletion_requests/Template:PD-Italy. Your edit summary was "Keep the history around". The PD-Italy template has now been raised at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Template:PD-Italy. Can you comment there on what should be done? Right now we seem to have a license template, which is in use, which contradicts a DR decision that the license is not compatible with Commons' terms. This is a problem! Thanks. Rd232 (talk) 16:23, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- I restored this version just to keep the history around. Will reply over there. Multichill (talk) 15:17, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Bot category choices
I am not certain how the bot chooses the categories but a number of categories added to the al-Jezeera patch could be seen as offensive or worse. File:Public Security's Khalid Fahad al-Shunaber - Flickr - Al Jazeera English.jpg: Mr. al-Shunaber probably does not deserve to be categorized as The Devil (just because he was a police official at the Stoning of the Devil ceremony). A number of apparently Sikh refugees in Swat valley were categorized as Taliban, etc. Oddly, a few pictures I noticed were put in category white and category house, instead of category White House. Rmhermen (talk) 18:10, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- LOL, blame the people who added the tags. That's why I add Category:Files from Al Jazeera to check. Feel free to correctly categorize these images and don't forget to remove the Category:Files from Al Jazeera to check category. Multichill (talk) 22:53, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Categorization message
Hey Maarten, I wanted to follow up on Erik's edits back in September to {{Please link images}}. Not only would translation be a good thing I think (and easier now with Jon's new system?) but Maryana and I would love to A/B test the bot messages, ideally in several languages. What do you think? (You can ping me on IRC too.) Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 00:22, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- What new system are you talking about exactly?
- A/B testing sounds like a plan. What do you have in mind exactly? Multichill (talk) 20:10, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- I am actually not quite sure how they're doing it, but as part of a fellowship Jon worked up a volunteer translations group for content (not software) that is pretty good. I believe it just happens on Meta.
- As for the testing, what we've done so far is sort of primitive but it works. Basically what we do is replace the current template referenced in the bot's settings with a template that randomly applies one of the test options using parser functions. We can also include hidden tracking templates if needs be. Depending on the volume of the bot, a test takes at least 30 days to collect enough data, then we take it down and do some statistical wizardry on it. We've just completed similar tests with XLinkBot and SDPatrolBot on EN, so other than pointing us to the config and/or source on-wiki and reviewing the templates, we shouldn't need much help. Sound okay? Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 23:13, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: NRHP tagging
Thanks for the note; it's good to see all the new tags. I've just observed an error affecting the tags for all properties listed from 2000 to 2009 — not enough digits are present. All reference numbers are eight digits, but the bot appears to be stripping out the leading zeroes; see File:Aqueduct Bridge.jpg for what the bot did and what I did to fix it. Nyttend (talk) 01:02, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- I, too, appreciate the bot tagging -- but, because I took a lot of them, I have a lot on my watchlist. Shouldn't the bot be adding the "b" watchlist tag as well as the "m" tag?
- Also, a thought for the future -- when I photograph an NRHP site, I usually upload a selection of images. I wonder if there is a way to add the tag to all of them, not just those used in the article? Thanks again, Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:21, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yea good use of a bot! I was going to comment about the multiple images per site as well as adding the bot flag. My watchlist is so hot it is glowing. Good job! Royalbroil 16:45, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, right, that bot isn't flagged here. I have quite some different bots, so I kind of lost track. Will ask for a flag, but the process is a bit broken so I wonder how long it will take. Multichill (talk) 16:49, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
- Seriously? Why did you even bother with the bot requests if you're just going to run the bot without permission? If you're going to insult the process to its face, at least be honest and just run it unapproved. Magog the Ogre (talk) 19:49, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Old maps
Pastmapper (http://www.pastmapper.com/) might be a good thing to consider adding to your list of projects that use old maps. It just launched last week, and features old maps redrawn to match current-day Google Maps. Right now it features San Francisco in 1853, but it's expanding soon.
