Template layout
I saw that you have created Template:Fotothek-License/layout. I have created Template:ZooKeys-License for a collaboration between Wikispecies and another project called ZooKeys. However, the language section of the ZooKeys license points back to Fotothek languages. Could you help me fix that template? OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:05, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

License migration for my images
Could you please change license on all my images (author EugeneZelenko/Eugene Zelenko) to from all variants of {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa}} to {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}}? I just don't have time to do this manually and GFDL migration will be unnecessary. Thank you. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:00, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll have a look at it. Multichill (talk) 10:56, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi EugeneZelenko. Multichill asked me if I had time to look at it and my bot is changeing at the moment. I worked on all files you uploaded (I hope - it's 6,207 files). I had not thought of the possibility that you were not original uploader so therefore I undid few edits. Hope it's all ok now. If not please correct or tell me. --MGA73 (talk) 16:44, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Manual change of my licenses
Hi Multichill. Your bot changed the license of File:Lions Etosha NP Fight for Prey.jpg and others. Am I allowed to change the license to {{Cc-by-sa-2.5-ch}} (could also be as a multiple license)? --Leyo 05:55, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- You licensed it under the GFDL so I don't think you can just remove it. You, as the copyright holder, can of course add any license you want. Why don't just change it to {{Self|GFDL|cc-by-all}}? Multichill (talk) 10:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I preferred to have it like this. I hope it is OK. --Leyo 13:23, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Infrogmation has opted out of involuntary license "migration"
I have opted out of the forced relicensing project. I am generally happy to extend additional Creative Commons license to my works if and when I am asked. However I have not authorized your bot nor any other third party to change the license of my original works without my express permission. Please have your bot cease the unauthorized changing the licensing of my works, and if possible please have it revert any changes made without copyright holder permission. Thank you much. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 20:30, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- You can change "relicense" with "opt-out" if you want to opt-out. Multichill (talk) 20:41, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have stated that repeatedly. Where/what do I need to do otherwise? It seems well hidden. Infrogmation (talk) 20:52, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- All images in Category:License migration candidates matching Commons:License Migration Task Force/Migration#Media file relicensing criteria will be migrated. You can opt out by adding "migration=opt-out" to {{Self}} or {{GFDL}}. Multichill (talk) 21:07, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. However I have doubts you want me to add "migration=opt-out" to {{Self}}? Is there an official place where I as an individual user can opt out? (I have already stated that I have opted out on the talk page of Commons:License Migration Task Force and elsewhere.) Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 21:32, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, on the images. It's up to the user. You could of course ask someone with a bot to change your images. Commons:Bots/Work requests is a good place to ask this. Multichill (talk) 21:35, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- You mean rather than I as a user opt out, it has to be posted on each and every one of my images individually?!? Wow, I don't know how many thousands of images I've uploaded. Well, in any case I have already given notice in such appropriate places as I can think of, so I have already officially and explicitly opted out. Anything else is just details of making sure that people and/or bots notice what has already been made clear. Yes, a bot should take care of anything else necessary after notice has been given. Perhaps you'd have some suggestions as to how this should or could be done? Is there another place more appropriate to discuss this, perhaps where others could participate? Thanks much for your help. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 21:51, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

- Your bot is editing my images again. Please stop having it make changes which fail to reflect that I am on record as opting out. Please have it revert such misleading changes it has already made which I have not yet reverted myself. If you could have the bot add the "opt out" notice on all my images, that would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks much. Infrogmation (talk) 16:01, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you don't revert the bots it's much easier to later opt you out (just have a bot work on all files uploaded by you and replace "relicense" with "opt-out"). Multichill (talk) 17:10, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Hm. Well, it is wrong, unauthorized, and strongly objected to by the copyright holder. When I see something like that, I can't think of why it should be allowed to stand. You know it's wrong, unauthorized, and strongly objected to by the copyrigth holder; I am at a loss as to why you not only seem not to be objecting to it, but allowing more of it to happen. I'm sorry if I sound uncivil, but I'm pretty exasperated by this. Infrogmation (talk) 22:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Bot problems
And now even notice on the indidual image seems not to be stopping the bot from changing opt-out'ed images: [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Infrogmation (talk • contribs) 16:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- Could it be that Multichill's bot is using a slightly out-of-date database dump with files seemingly eligible for migration? I fully understand and share your concern about the behaviour of the bot. I'm however confident that Multichill will fix these problems soon as I know him as one of our most reliable, talented and valuable contributors at Commons. Nillerdk (talk) 14:40, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- No Nillerdk, Infrogmation doesn't understand how to opt-out. It's described at Commons:License Migration Task Force/Migration#Media relicensing process. Multichill (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm also having difficulties understanding the "explanation" there. It would be useful if a small guide for opting out could be added. If I wanted to opt out, how would I efficiently do that for my probably 500 uploads? For example to avoid misunderstanding like [2] where opt-out was clearly specified (look at the whole source, not just the changed part). Another thing: Is there actually a deadline for opting out? When is it too late for Infrogmation to opt-out? I guess I can't say in 5 years, oh, I don't want this file to by cc-by-sa anymore!? Nillerdk (talk) 16:22, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- No Nillerdk, Infrogmation doesn't understand how to opt-out. It's described at Commons:License Migration Task Force/Migration#Media relicensing process. Multichill (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have opted out. My problems seem to be getting that opt out recognized and not repeatedly violated by bots. Yes, I am having trouble understanding how to do that. This is despite the fact that I have spent hours attempting to do so, including but not limited to reading pages here and on Meta, as well as looking for something like a single official "opt out form" I could fill out (there seems to be none, or if there is it is unusually well hidden). I have not been involved in the License Migration Task Force, but consider myself far from a newbie user of Commons, probably better than average in having a general understanding of Commons. Opting out is supposedly allowed; so I have done so and will continue to try to get that opt out recognized until it is. I'm thinking now that getting a bot to put "{{License migration opt-out}}" on all Commons images of which I am the author might be a step towards that goal? Am I getting warmer? Wondering simply, Infrogmation (talk) 16:43, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- To Nillerdk. It is an interessting example you have found. It also have a PD-template, so I can't understand why the user wants to opt out when it is PD. My guess is that the best solution will be to make a list or tag images that have both a opt-out and a "migrated" when the bots have finished the job. Hopefully the list will be short. As for the images of Infrogmation the plan is to run my bot today and hopefully stop migration and revert all images already migrated. --MGA73 (talk) 08:03, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- To Multichill (this being their talkpage, after all): Would it be possible to simply make your bot skip any files in Category:License migration opt-out? That would seem to be a more robust system than the way you seem to be currently using. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 09:23, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- Only buggy uploads end up in more than one license migration category. Multichill (talk) 11:04, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Das Ständebuch
Hi Multichill, there is a bot needed to categorize images that have been uncategorized uploaded by another bot. Each of the 673 images here (minus few already manually categorized ones) should be placed in Category:Das Ständebuch (1568). Can you help or arrange some help? Thanks in advance, -- Ies (talk) 19:15, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Ies, I think I can do that once I get yet another bot flagged. Multichill (talk) 19:47, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Done, now working on Category:Deutsche Tibet-Expedition Ernst Schäfer. Multichill (talk) 12:00, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello Multichill. Could you give me first steps to create a bot ? (I'm an advanced programmer, trustable user of Commons, but newbie in this matter). Regards, Jack ma (talk) 11:12, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Kaldari, I see you've created Category:Wikipedia Loves Art at the Hunter Museum of American Art. This is a strange category because you mix a source category (images from the WLA project) and a topic category (images related with the Hunter Museum of American Art). All the images should be placed in Category:Hunter Museum of American Art and (a subcategory of) Category:Wikipedia Loves Art. Multichill (talk) 10:44, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- What subcategory would you suggest? We have ~3500 images from 15 museums. It seems like it would be logical to create a subcategory under Wikipedia Loves Art for each museum. I'm open to suggestions though. Kaldari (talk) 15:27, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Trick for easier checking categories
I found the following trick for easier checking categories of a series of related files: put a crosscan at your favorites.
- exemple: Category:Media needing category review in use at pt.wikipedia crossscan with Category:São Paulo City:

Edits too soon causing edit confilicts
See this edit [5] which this bot did to a page within one minute of the file being uploaded. This is likely to case edit conflicts. I thought bots could not make edits so soon after another edit. A delay of about 10 minutes would be better to give a little time for users to finish of what they were doing. Please fix it. Snowmanradio (talk) 09:36, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- This job only runs twice a day. You just happened to run into it. Chance of this happening is quite small so this is a wontfix. I thought Magnus changed his bot to use {{subst:Unc}} right away btw. Multichill (talk) 13:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup needed
Hi Multichill! I think we should try to get a list of images
- with the text "|migration=relicense" that are still in Category:License migration candidates
- with 2 x "|migration=relicense".
And when the bots are done we should check for images with
- "|migration=relicense" + some sort of opt-out
- "|migration=relicense" + "3.0" or "-all"
And if images are "PD" do we really need "GFDL" or "CC-whatever"? And finally we need some beer! --MGA73 (talk) 23:29, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Categories
Hi,
I don't understand your bot's messages. All of "my" images have categories. Why does it insist that they don't ? thanks JJ Georges (talk) 15:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- The images were not categorized when the bot left you the message (example [6]). If you or others do not add a category then after some time the bot tries to find categories (look at the yellow template with the heading "The categories of this image should be checked. Check them now!" like here File:Sun Yat-sen and Sung Qing-ling 1911 (Cropped).jpg). The categories should still be checked by a human. --MGA73 (talk) 16:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Category:Question marks?
Your bot added an odd category to a series of files, eg.: [7]. That is to say, I find "Question marks" an odd category. I have changed this for a number of files into a more appropriate, but maybe not perfect category: [8], see here for August 5th: Special:Contributions/VanBuren (sorry about a few mistakes). --VanBuren (talk) 11:30, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- That sure is an odd category. Thanks for fixing. Multichill (talk) 12:04, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- And more (hick up in the bot?) - contributions from Special:Contributions/Pustelnia_Złotego_Lasu which I fixed.
Not fixed is this one: File:Pwn3d.jpg with a Category:Question marks (This one reminds me of the geenstijl-tv promotion (do you know what I mean?); it looks like it has the wrong country attribution... I would expect it to be dutch...).
And one more (different) thing, these: Precedence Diagram and Weighted_Table don't have any information at all. What does one do with that? Multichill (talk) 11:39, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- And more (hick up in the bot?) - contributions from Special:Contributions/Pustelnia_Złotego_Lasu which I fixed.
Annoying bot
If you're going to ask me to categorize my photos, at least update your request when you go ahead and do it yourself a couple days later. :( --Elvey (talk) 18:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- When uploading pictures you should do your best to categorize your photos. Multichill's bot can automatic add suggestions for categories, but the bot can't replace the human brain. So even if the bot categorize your photos, a human should still check it. It is a service - the annoying part is just a bonus ;-) --MGA73 (talk) 18:26, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply MGA73. Multichill (talk) 09:36, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Got it. But my complaint wasn't about the first bot being annoying. I said you should at least update your request when you go ahead and do it yourself a couple days later. If you don't want to be considerate like that, please keep your bot's hands off what you call "my photos".--Elvey (talk) 08:12, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- SOLUTION: Your bot's comments: Foo "is uncategorized since 21 July 2009." is simply wrong. Fix it and the frequent critical comments could descrease. Something like Foo "was uncategorized when a bot checked it on 21 July 2009" would be an improvement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elvey (talk • contribs) 10:29, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- I like that proposal, what do you think Multichill? Elvey: The bot is quite valuable because it draws the uploader's attention. Ideally, the uploader would add the photo to at least one category or ask someone how to do it. Nillerdk (talk) 08:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, I can change the text. Maybe "Image:bla was uncategorized on 21 July 2009" is better? Multichill (talk) 17:17, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Diappearing file!
Today I have uploaded a file called Trinodicalles_conicollis because the last one I uploaded has disappeared without warning or trace! How can this happen??? Stho002 (talk) 22:53, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

- No, that is the replacement. My original one was a dorsal view. It just vanished! You will see that the second image was uploaded in August, but I added the original img to the Wikispecies page (http://species.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Trinodicalles_conicollis&action=history) in May! Suggestion
Hi, Multichill, your template {{Check categories}} gives useful information: the wiki-articles which contains the image. By deleting the template, we also delete that useful info. Why do you not make permanent the reference to the wikipedia articles. Is that feasible? --Havang(nl) (talk) 17:01, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think this would be very useful. This is static information outdated at the moment I place the template. You can get the info from the check usage tool. Multichill (talk) 20:21, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Your bot makes interwiki's from commonsfiles to wikiarticles, why not making them permanent? --Havang(nl) (talk) 21:03, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Because this is not the intend of the bot. The descriptions should probably contain links to the relevant articles like in File:Bi-crystal.jpg. Multichill (talk) 11:33, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

- Hello Multichill, according to law [9]. This flag is unofficial state flag, this flag is used as "local" and not "state" use, that's why, this flag was reupload it with the correct name with File:Flag of Jalisco (local).svg, the same thing with Tlaxcala, this flag is historical or distinctive, as you can see both flags are used with the state name "flag of (state name).svg", and the others flags with "local". I already report this to another admin here who could understand and read the report in spanish language. Thank you. --TownDown How's it going? 22:20, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Multichill (talk) 11:29, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
File:Cab Kaye by Dixie Solleveld.jpg's permission still unconfirmed
Hello, Multichill. The file linked to in the above header has been marked with {{OTRS received}}, but there has been no complete confirmation of it's permission status in the last 30 days. From what I'm able to tell, you were the person who added this template. Would you mind taking a look at this again? If confirmation cannot be found, this file should probably be marked for deletion. This should be the only notification you will receive regarding this image, so long as the comment I added to the image description page is not altered. Thanks! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 23:24, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
If you are not an OTRS volunteer or did not add the "received" template to this file, it's possible I made a mistake identifying the correct user. I look for the most recent diff where the template was added, so if you reverted an edit where this template was removed, I can't tell the difference. If this is the case, please let my operator know at w:en:User talk:Hersfold. Sorry for the inconvenience!
- Done ok now. Multichill (talk) 11:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

New Hampshire Public Television
I am a Web Coordinator at New Hampshire Public Television and would like to revise our page. It was done a very long time ago by another employee that no longer works here, most of the content, i.e.; images, facts, and other information happens to be deprecated. I tried editing the page with some success but it was returned to its old version the next day. I can supply any credentials you need to allow myself and our company access to properly organize our Wikipedia page, after all we are the legitimate source for our companies proper information.

This DR
Could this DR be closed as keep? (please look at the evidence...you have to scroll through the given table link to find the image in question but it is there) Secondly, could the image be flickrpassed based on a 'cc by sa' license from Admin Para's flickr license change evidence and tagged with a 'flickr change of license' template? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:20, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Trust
It is strange is it not? I was the nominator in this DR and I withdrew my DR after MGA73 gave his evidence and you still did not act. I fail to see the problem except that you do not trust me.
I said please look at the evidence...you have to scroll through the given table link to find the image in question but it is there. I then suggested that the image be flickrpassed based on a 'cc by sa' license from Admin Para's flickr license change evidence and tagged with a 'flickr change of license' template. But still you did not act. If this is the way other Admins act at Undelete, how will I ever get an image undeleted...please tell me truthfully? I work so hard to get images copyrighted freely as in this classic case and still some Admins don't trust me. I don't know what else to say except that I'm just very tired. Goodnight from Canada. --Leoboudv (talk) 09:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- This is not about trust, this is about time. Did you notice this page contains over 80 topics? Did you notice a lot of them are unanswered? That's because i'm rather busy with other things. I'm not your personal admin. I will take a look at it when I feel like it. If you don't want to wait you should have used one of the noticeboards. Multichill (talk) 10:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding. I thought that once a nominator with drew his nomination, the DR is closed unless it was a flagrant copy vio or violated FOP. Personally, I wish it was closed so I could pass it and cite Para's flickr license change evidence for my decision. But I guess the DR will take 1 full week now. The good thing from this DR was that MGA73 mentioned Para's evidence. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:13, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I can confirm that Multichill has a lot to do. He makes a lot of good lists for me :-) Anyway the reason I put the link on the DR and left it open was that it would be nice to hear if others agreed that the list was a good proof. Things take time... I closed a DR from 2006 a week ago :-o --MGA73 (talk) 18:37, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

"Removed all categories"
Hey Multichill, is there any way you can have your bot that adds {{uncategorized}} to ignore pages where the last edit is tagged as "removed all categories" by abuse filter 27? An hour and a half is not enough time around here.[10] ;) Rocket000 (talk) 04:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- My bot doesn't understand tags. Hitrate seems to be good. Why not just disallow these edits? Multichill (talk) 05:55, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I would but there's some little issues. For one thing, I can't figure out why edits like [11] or [12] are being caught when it has
(old_wikitext contains "[[Category")
. It's also catching a lot of total page blanking, which should be dealt with by a different filter (the rules being different). I'll look into it and do some testing. Hopefully we can enable it soon. Rocket000 (talk) 08:06, 25 August 2009 (UTC)- I hope that too. I raised the delay from 1 hour to 2 hours. Multichill (talk) 11:00, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've been working on 27 and 4. I got them to a decent state. They don't catch everything but together they do a pretty good job, and so far no false positives. Both are now set to disallow. Should see a lot less problems for the bot. Rocket000 (talk) 11:16, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Meyers Blitz Lexikon
Hello,
your Bot has added the "Media needing categories" to many pages with the template {{LA2-Blitz}}. This is not quite a correct move, in my opinion, because
- the template itself includes these pages in a category.
- we do not really want these pages to be classified in categories, but rather to have extracted images (template {{extract image}})
Do you agree ? If yes, can you do something to solve this situation ?
Yours, Frédéric (talk) 08:36, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Templates shouldn't add topic categories
- Every file should be categorized.
- So no, I don't agree. Multichill (talk) 10:52, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
