After adding a category to any of the bot's uploaded photos, the category of Images from the Deutsche Fotothek needing categorization gets removed. Great Images of NASA

He Multi. I have the following for you.

• User:TheDJ/grin_importer.pl - the perl script that generates bot.sh and downloads the images
• User:TheDJ/gpn.txt - the text file containing all existing GPN numbers

It uses the categories:

• Category:Great Images in NASA - All images
• Category:GRIN images detection errors - images that saw the detection of one of the fields fail
• Category:GRIN images requiring copyright evaluation - images that are possibly not PD-USGov-NASA (usually these will be another government agency)
• Category:GRIN images possible dupes - these images are likely duplicate with already uploaded files.

It creates:

• bot.sh
• errorlog.txt - contains any download errors. these entries should probably be removed from bot.sh by hand.
• all the high res jpgs.

Dupe message

You removed it again but still. Where there any images not replaced? Because Dupes-Tool and/or the CommonsDelinker-message showed everything as deleted. Or if the CommonsDelinker told that he had problems replacing then I walked through the projects doing it manually. So if there were cases where the tools showed wrong and that I can't trust them completly currently I need to know because then I need to figure out another way to see if they were replaced. The only stuff I usually don't replace manually are imgages in old archives (and GeorgHH's bad-filename-list). -- Cecil (talk) 14:44, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Question retour. I just checked the CommonsDelinker-Log. Except one Commons-gallery (which I repaired now) all images from the last hour where from cases where the local queues where not fast enough or where both files where marked as dupes. Zeer veel foto's van Terence Ong genomen in Singapore

Dag Multichill, bij het catalogiseren van "Media needing categories" ben ik héél veel foto's genomen in Singapore van Terence Ong tegengekomen. Het blijkt dat hij is gestopt met zijn activiteiten. Bij een aantal foto's heb ik de categorie toegevoegd, maar het is onbegonnen werk om het allemaal manueel te doen en ik heb er eigenlijk ook geen zin in. Een Singaporees kan dat beter doen. Is het mogelijk om jouw bot te laten gaan over zijn bijdragen en in het geval er nog geen categorie aanwezig is en er in de summary het woord Singapore staat, om de categorie Singapore toe te voegen met de bekende vermelding dat een bot het heeft gedaan en dat het nog manueel moet worden gecontroleerd? I always categorize my uploads! But I found the reason why some are not. This stupid upload form doesn't accept the category unless you press this (accept) button. So I write the category in the text field and upload the file and then there is no category in the description. Next time I only use the basic form. --Micha L. Yes that is cleaner. {{DEFAULTSORT:}} approach was easier since template:creator is a protected page and I can not modify it without involving other users. See Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2009Mar#bug_in_categories.3F, typical problem with inaccurate counters and template driven category names (there are several such categories in the non-empty type of categories) : solution is to add an image to the category and to remove it again: that will force a reset of the counter. Hallo Multichill. Ik heb hier en daar, bij een bepaalde foto en in het algemeen, al een verzoek laten vallen, maar geen reactie gezien. Nu wil ik het via jou proberen. Ik wil nl. graag een aantal van mijn foto's (definitief) van wikipedia verwijderen, om deze door een andere en /of een andere versie te vervangen. Hoe moet ik dan te werk gaan? Gewoon omdat ik in dit geval de laatste versie wil laten staan voor GFDL en de de betere en eerste versie voor mijzelf wil houden! Moch er iemand zijn, die de eerst versie reeds gekopieerd heeft, dan heb ik helaas pech gehad. Maar het is nu nog de tijd om een en ander te voorkomen! Als je dit zou willen doen, graag, en als je dit niet kunt, zou ik de naam van iemand willen hebben die dat wél kan en wil doen. We hebben meer dan 4 miljoen afbeeldingen dus de kans dat een verzoek op een individuele afbeelding door iemand wordt opgemerkt is vrij klein. Ik zie dat je een aantal afbeeldingen die je hebt vrijgegeven onder de GFDL en die ik heb overgezet hebt vervangen door postzegels. Dat lijkt me geen goed plan. Wat is dit voor moeilijk gedoe! Als mij op de Limburgse wikipedia zo'n simpel verzoek gedaan wordt (als zijnde sysop en moderator) om een artikel, 'n vergissing of iets derg. te verwijderen, dan kom ik gewoon, zover het in mijn macht ligt, degeen tegemoet. Het is immers totaal geen moeite! Gewoon een knopje indrukken. Waarom verwijder je niet gewoon deze (mijn eigendom!) foto [[File:Tersjtraotewkped07.JPG]]? (En graag definitief!). Dat hoeft toch geen probleem te zijn? Ik wil héél graag deze (mijn) foto in al zijn varianten, nieuwe en oude versies, gewoon niet meer vrijgeven (©) op WIKIPEDIA (zij was per ongeluk upgeload). Het verzoek heb ik aan jou gesteld omdat jij degeen bent geweest, die zonder te aan te kondigen (doch achteraf gemeld) al mijn foto's getransporteerd hebt van mijn gebruikerspagina (li: Gebroeker: Aelske) naar commons. Ik herhaal hier even wat ik al in de Kroeg meldde, maar nu met bestandsnamen erbij. Ik hou het maar even bij Perl. Ik heb er een haat-liefdeverhouding mee, want de ontdekking van PHP vond ik een verademing, maar Python hou ik even af. Perlwikipedia is inmiddels opgenomen in de standaard library van Activestate onder de naam MediaWiki::Bot. Ik heb het gebruikt, het ziet er handig uit die classes, maar ik krijg een foutmelding bij de toepassing. Misschien verklaart die wel meer vreemde verschijnselen die ik meemaakte de laatste tijd. Kennelijk sta ik (of de bestanden File:Gocursus-dia1-1.png en File:Gocursus-dia1-2.png) op een blacklist: De prompt geeft terug: Unknown error: "titleblacklist-forbidden-edit". Please do not delete these images until I get the hang of this. The Rustic Pony in particular took a lot of effort to acquire and I believe the page really benefits from this image. I will try to revisit these images but find the commons a bit tricky to navigate despite enjoying posting images.

Have you abandoned this little project? If so, I was going to send my bot out to simply add a category the templates. If not, I will help out with adding this to the templates. I see you're also adding {{uncategorized}} to the other uncategorized templates. Awesome! One little issue, though. We can't categorize templates that are used as preloaded text (since they also preload the noinclude parts). There aren't too many of these so it's not really an issue but just something to watch for (like {{VIC-nom-preload}}). I made a list awhile ago here. Yes, i was tired of looking for the uncategorized files. The preloading implementation sucks. I was thinking about running a regular bot to tag uncategorized templates. Sure, and I'll look for others. I moved it to Commons:WikiProject Templates/Category scheme/Templates that shouldn't be categorized. If the description is problem I can move it back to the category scheme page and just keep the list itself (but this way it's all together for transcluding). Unable to add categories

That's probably because of database lag. I'm not going to fix it as the image is tagged with {{Check categories}} anyway. I'll fire up a bot to work on uncategorized files in use at dawp. The fix: I did not want you to fix the image - I could do it myself - I thougt the script needed a fix. The botrun on files: That sounds great - thank you. I just found out I can use my bot to do the trick myself, so I did some testruns. Potd page

Adding {{Potd page}} to all the POTD image name subpages seems like a really bad idea to me. Before, those pages could be used easily as metadata in javascript stuff, rss feed generation, bots copying POTD images to other wikis etc., adding a template kills all those scripts and makes writing new ones more difficult, for no apparent benefit (I don't see any real advantage in having nice human-readable messages on pages no one will ever read anyway). --Tgr (talk) 08:35, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

The potd pages were flooding Special:UncategorizedTemplates. It's still very easy to get the text and you get the metadata (date and language) for free, just use regular expressions. Multichill (talk) 08:59, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually he said he 'wasn't going to waste anymore time responding to a request for a Reliable Source'. My last post simply says that "Responding to requests for a "Reliable Source" is not considered a "waste of time" as you put it - it is a bedrock principle at the foundation of the project." And although I had nothing to add at that point, neither of us knows whether the user whose page you have unilaterally shut down and squelched speech on has. Do you make it a point to squelch discussion? Is there something inherently offensive about a reasonable request to support ones edits? I can't say I know anyone who enjoys watching those with power use it to halt criticism and questions regarding the use of that power - especially when it, as here, is so carelessly applied in the narrow self-interest of the powerful.
